Admission and JAMB

Hello! If you’re making enquires about why some candidates are offered multiple admissions from different institutions in Nigeria, then this article is for you. I can boldly tell you that there were once a case of a candidate that got four (4) admission offers from different higher institutions in Nigeria at one academic session.

However, it’s important to note that all those mentioned above was before the introduction of Central Admission Processing System (CAPS). Before CAPS was created, there were lots of cases of candidates that got more than one admissions into different schools in Nigeria.

The multiple admission for one candidate caused many backlashes then in the sense that some certain candidates, despite being qualified, aren't given a chance to be considered for admission. Meanwhile, other candidates received multiple admission offers from various schools.

The discrepancy arises because there is often an imbalance in how opportunities are distributed. Factors such as application strategies, institutional preferences, and competition can lead to some students receiving several offers while others, equally deserving, are left out. This creates an uneven playing field for applicants.

For these reasons, the introduction of central admission processing systems (CAPS) was necessitated whereby admission becomes more regulated by Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB). The JAMB’s CAPS controls and regulates all admission processes till date.

It is now impossible to gain admission to more than one universities in Nigeria simultaneously due to the following reasons:

  • Only first choice of your chosen institutions can offers you an admission.
  • Once a school offers you admission, no other school can offer you another admission in that academic session or year.
  • Immediately you accept your admission offer on JAMB’s CAPS, your admission window for that academic session or year will automatically be closed.

In a nutshell, only candidates who rejected their admission offers on JAMB’s CAPS have the opportunity to be get another admission offer from other schools in Nigeria.
